Sumoto has historical castle called Sumoto Castle that was built 400 years ago.

We have 2 area as under the castle area; calls Soto-machi where there was a lot of wealthy merchant; such as knife maker, soy sauce maker, and Uchi-machi where was shops and business area. We guide you to the historical place with old and new maps then go shopping place where we daily use.

You can see another aspect of history;

Sumoto area was man made with landfill at the beginning of 20^th century. The local government wanted to boost sumoto’s economy so that they invited the Kanebo company to open a cotton spinning factory. Thanks impact to the convenient location for sea traffic (import and export), Kanebo spinning industry was thriving for 40 years.

After garment industry suffered, their spinning industry gradually went downhill.

Now factory has been repurposed into various things such as; library, restaurant, and community purpose area.
